The Legendary Ecuadorian "Panama Hats". Authentic classic Panama hats are not made in Panama. They are, and always have been, made in Ecuador. They first came to the attention of the world when workers building the Panama Canal wore them for protection against the sun. Ecuadorian hats are hand woven from a natural fibre of a palm-like plant know as Paja Toquilla (or Carludovia Palmata). Grown only in two regions of Ecuador, and at altitudes of no more than 1,000 metres. Ecuadorian hats are worn by high society and hat lovers around the world.
